“We have to be disruptive”: Rep. Jake Auchincloss on the future of the Democratic Party

Where the party goes from here.

Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D-MA) has been on a bit of a media tour lately: talking crime with the Wall Street Journal, health care policy with Bloomberg, tech policy with TIME, and going through a day in his life with Tangle News. (One of the most innovative things I’ve seen in political media in a while!)

Next stop: Wake Up To Politics.

Auchincloss, 37, is one of the younger voices in the Democratic Party, and has tried to position himself at the forefront of conversations about where the party should go next.

In our Substack Live conversation earlier today, we touched on a lot of his ideas:

  • The language Democrats should be using to reach voters

  • What a Democratic approach to crime should look like

  • Why he thinks an “attention tax” should be imposed on social media conglomerates

  • How he would pressure both parties into a bipartisan deficit reduction bill

  • Why Democrats should listen to mayors

And more!

I really enjoyed hearing Auchincloss’ thoughts, and I think readers of all political stripes who are curious about how Democrats are reimagining themselves (or not) ahead of 2026 and 2028 will find it to be enlightening.
