This assumes Trump actually cared about any of the stuff he said to get elected. His real agenda was always to stay out of jail, get revenge, and enrich himself. He won - that’s all that matters to him.

To me it’s simple. More republicans voted than democrats. So he won. Does he have a mandate.……. NO. Will republicans excuse his behavior ….YES. Does he really care. …..NO. In fact, there has been a deep concern in my gut he is deliberately playing games and his real motives are revenge and that includes giving another tax break to the very wealthy, without regard for this country at all.

I appreciate this detailed, very interesting article on the differences between what Presidents focus on and what the people focus on. Thanks!

I believe Trump will look after his big donor buddies and other wealthy people. Easing the economic burdens of taxes, the cost of all kinds of insurance, and the costs of everyday living for the middle class comprise a much bigger effort. Trump is too hung up on his grievances to perform any kind of governing. I hope all of us ordinary Americans can hang on.

In the early 1990’s, Randy Johnson appeared in an attack ad against Mitt Romney’s Massachusetts US Senate bid. The ad focused on the economy and how a small Indiana factory was closed by an out of touch businessman. Massachusetts was only a few years out of a recession. Romney’s bid was very strong; he had no answer to Kennedy’s slick ad and lost very badly. Obama would resurrect the issue in 2012, after another recession left Americans battered. Romney lost again. You better pay attention to the economy. https://abcnews.go.com/amp/Blotter/romney-critic-resurfaces/story?id=15244767

We are dealing with an unstable person assisted by an unstable drug user and a cabinet that has, maybe, one qualified person who has sold his soul to djt. We need to hear more from psychologists because there is no rhyme or reason to his “fiscal” policy. I think destroying the consumer class tells us all we need to know.

It was explained to me that Trump won because of the "three I's": inflation, immigration, and identity politics.

I don't see "invade Canada" on that list but here we are.

another big reason djt won is because too many dems stayed home and didn't bother to vote.

Gabe any interest in saying more about “post materialist” politics? Im curious to hear your evidence for or against the US moving toward it.

Another question. Has any other country or empire crossed over into post materialist politics?

Reduce chicken mortality with illness prevention, increase chicken insemination rates. There are LOTS of things you can do, but if you lay everyone off…

Ok closer..... but then what are the actual mechanics/incentives for adopting these new solutions?..... is it government regulation, subsidies, market pressure?.... and...

and...is there a clear knowledge, expertise, or willingness to initiate these changes?....i.e. who pays for them? who is responsible for changing them?

I am not being argumentative, trust me. It is actually that I don't see where along the supply chain, a dedication to change these things will be/is coming from.... i.e. who is "responsible" for stopping bird flu and/or whatever else is causing the high egg costs?

Afternote: Chickens are also metaphor for me here.... The dynamics of "lowering costs" applies to lots beyond chickens.... and the mechanics of it all seems infinitely elusive.

I remember hearing a lot of the blame attributed to faulty delivery systems, shipping lines, etc.

You have hit the proverbial nail on the head.

Communities have learned that over regulation of community banks after the Great Recession by the government left many communities without a community financial resource and that those bankers knew more than some regulators….but Americans quickly realized that removing restrictions on banks and banking supervision, paid for by taxpayers, led to intense Depressions and crashes and that not all bankers had the best interest of their community in mind.

Who pays, how much regulation, who has responsibility for what? That’s the 60,000 question and often depends on when the last recession happened. Recession long ago, out of mind? Let private industry handle it. Recession right now? Where was government!!!
