I do not need to be in the head of the real estate mob boss posing as President to know that he does not care. His actions and words are that of a pathological lying, malignant narcissist. He didn’t care then, he doesn’t care now and he won’t care in the future.
He can’t care. His pathology does not allow it. Therefore, phrases like “to be fair to the president” are unnecessary. He is no better than a broken clock that is right twice a day. He deserves none of our concerns about fairness.
It’s shear, dumb luck when he stumbles onto something that makes sense or seems right. He and his sycophantic self-empretzeling administration go out of their way to be cruel, capricious, careless and corrupt. The result of this chaos in our most basic institutions causes real harm and death. The damage of all the senseless wrongs continue to pile up and the most vulnerable continue to suffer.
I say this “to be fair to the president”. Seriously.
Just hope that if the Democrats do win control of congress in November they start enacting legislation that addresses the country’s needs and they do not get lured by the siren song of another attempt at Trump impeachment.

I guess Trump learned nothing from 1980's Iraq-Iran war, where Iran held out for 8 years against the much larger and better equipped Saddam Hussein's army and air force. "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
It's pretty damning that it took running the car off the road, into the ditch, over the guardrails, down the hill, and into the SWAMP for half this country to get a clue.
I don’t think our political system can fairly be called calcified. Trump has created a new party but kept the former name. The Democratic Socialists are trying to do the same thing. In practical terms there are four parties now. I am waiting for the “old” Republicans and Democrats to merge into a new moderate party so the 85% of us who are not coo coo (and do not vote solely based on gas prices) can have rational government. Unfortunately, too many of the old R & Ds are actually old and did not cultivate successors.
Have we seen the first election after a President takes office where the other party doesn't do well/better than the party currently in 'control'? You might have discussed this before and I have forgotten. Is there a deadline of any sort that Republicans are working against? For instance, if they haven't moved the price of gas and goods to a low enough point by September is it too late? Or do you think public sentiment is shorter than that? Obviously some of that involves a magic 8 ball. I know cost of living is on my mind and has been since Covid really. My income has not increased with the increases in costs of living. Things were looking better for a little bit but I've noticed the cost of medicine, electricity, gas, and food has slowly ticked up again and has erased any gains I had. It makes me feel like no one in office, Trump especially, has any real idea what it's like to be an average person in the US.
Research shows that voter suppression tactics rarely affect outcomes. Especially with an energized voter population. These tactics are bad for the country because they reduce the engagement with the political process that democracy requires. They are also an indication that other methods of throwing elections may be being employed. Does this not worry you or are you, like AI, completely unworried about cheating as long as it produces the outcome you favor?

This is the reason why Lichtman’s Keys to the White House predicted the winner wrong. Trump might as well have been a third-party celebrity candidate.
