How to stop this shutdown madness: all politicians don’t get paid until an agreement is made. Simple and right.

Including no per diem.

"...and the Problem Solvers bill can’t get a vote anywhere" Yeah, I know this phrase was followed by the note that it's because Congress went home, but isn't this also a more general description of the problem nowadays? The Problem Solvers are trying to come up with--gasp!--compromises. But the will to compromise nowadays is in such short supply that they can't get anywhere. It's insane. A pox on all their houses. Not only should Congress not get paid when something like this happens, they shouldn't get back pay when they solve it, either. It would seem only real pain would make them do the right thing.

I'm sorry: the HOUSE and Rep Lee are completely responsible for this one. Don't do a false equivalency on the House GOP and the Senate that passed its bill 100-0 (for once). The complete dysfunction among House Republicans, starting with the Speaker, is responsible for this mess today.

I ask unanimous consent for the following:

In the future, whenever Congress is unable to pass a budget resolution before the expiration of the existing budget, the entirely of the government will continue to be funded at the current levels with all employees being paid, with one exception. No member of Congress will. receive a paycheck until a new budget is passed. Maybe they won't be so quick to go on vacation.

I'm a fan of Harvey Levin's: " "OWTA" (Out With Their Asses) movement, calling for voters to remove every member of Congress, regardless of party, due to frustration over government shutdowns, gridlock, and failure to compromise. He argues both parties are to blame and that politicians should be fired for failing to do their jobs."

“Somewhat confusingly, he also posted in Japanese, in a message that translates to, “The House of Councillors must be convened and conduct its business.””

Currently his tweet reads: 上院は召集し、その業務を行わなければなりません。/“The Senate must convene and conduct its business”

上院/Jō’in means “senate” (among other potential translations) and is used in Japanese to refer to the US Senate: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/アメリカ合衆国上院

But he has a follow-up tweet saying 「参議院」ではなく「上院」/“Senate rather than House of Councillors”, so maybe he got the Japanese for “senate” wrong the first time around and then later edited his initial tweet.

Fantastic reporting on the gross dysfunction of Congress. Thank you

Go Gabe!

What's the history of attempts to tie their pay (or war chests) to their performance?

Useful context here also includes the fact that Democrats repeatedly tried to vote on bills to fund everything in DHS except ICE and CBP and the Republicans continually blocked votes on it.

Trump is basically doing what Democrats have been trying to do since the beginning of this shut down.

I’m still hoping for the time when our government just functions and remains, for the most part, in the background. There are much more interesting things that happen every day that normal people do. I’m not interested in having the shenanigans of Congress and the President continually put front and center in the news. Congress needs to experience the pain of not being paid during a shutdown. Maybe the members will get a clue.

Get the word out now- get passports because SAVE will somehow be passed and it will be too late to get a passport before the election! Be dreamy. Not sorry!
