If the executive branch does not comply with a court order from a federal judge then what recourse does a court have, if any, to force the executive to comply?

and what is the history of enforcing ignored judges and court orders? can the Judiciary mobilize the US Marshals? could there be another US Constitution Military? or is one needed if the current miltary swears oaths to the US Constitution?

The House passed the SAVE Act, which would require people who register to vote to show a passport or birth certificate. This would clearly lower the pool of potential voters among a number of ethnic and marginalized demographics. I thought voter and election rules were established by states, not the Federal Government. What am I missing,

Piggybacking off this: what will it REALLY mean for married women who have changed their last names and are trying to vote?

I’ve wondered about this, too. If you don’t have a passport and a birth certificate is the only other acceptable ID you can use then that should suffice to prove citizenship. Clearly, no girl baby is married at her birth. I’m wondering if women who took their husband’s family name would also have to show the paperwork showing their legal name change.

In Georgia they changed the voter ID laws about 10 years ago. When I renewed my driver's license (required id to vote) I had to show birth certificate, marriage license, divorce decree, and a copy of my bank statement. Mind this was a renewal for a Georgia driver's license I had had for 8 years. Took me three visits before a young girl gave it to me without checking with her supervisor. Voter suppression is very real in Georgia.

Hmmm, that’s so different from my experience. I’m also Georgia and married, and I renewed mine online. I also lost it earlier this year and they sent me a new one, also just by going online. Was your previous one not a Real ID? My kids also registered to vote online when they were each 17.5 - the youngest in time for the 2024 elections - without any issues.

Motor voter sign up. Which they took away for a short period of time. Not sure how long you have been in the state, but this was in Forsyth County. I'm glad you didn't have a problem. I have to renew this year so I hope I have it easy, but I have all my docs just in case.

I’ve been here since 2000, living in Cobb and Fulton over the past 25 years. I hope your renewal is smooth and easy this time!

A friend added to his list of action items: writing a snail-mail note to Chief Justice John Roberts (evidently the Supremes don't take voicemail or email). There's lots to say to him about preserving democracy. Do you think writing to the Chief Justice could have any effect--like calling Congress at least potentially does--even though he never has to run for reelection?

Do you think we have reached a constitutional crisis yet?

Gabe, I would like you to share how you distinguish between reporting the news of the day and your opinion about the news of the day's effect on our governmental institutions. It seems to me that the Executive Branch is assuming way too much power itself and also demanding that institutions change just because he says so -- without debate -- and through intimidation. Seems un-American to me.

I’d love a professional opinion of our work on the alien enemies act , https://thistleandmoss.com/p/why-the-alien-enemies-act-is-a-constitutional

We assume it’s a constitutional dumpster fire , but it’s been shown that SCOTUS is letting Trump use it. Why ?

What is your overall feeling about the future of the United States? For example, if you were married, would you have children or be too fearful of the future? Would you book travel to a foreign country in the next few years? Would you invest in the stock market?

Second question: What has the Left done to make the Right hate and revile us so much? On a former classmates re-post, the poster declared that he'd gladly pay $10/egg just to see the "libs" cry. Says he's a "one-issue" voter, and that issue is "owning the libs." Is there actually a "radical left," and if so . . . where is it and what has it done??

Always a fan, Gabe!!!

hi Gabe, you have sought to be neutral and careful about reporting which we all appreciate. However, the Washington Post started the Pinnocchio meter to count and grade the lies told by politicians, including current ones in office. How about a WakeUp Meter that actually grades Democracy vs Autocracy. The Economist has 4 levels for Nations, but this would adapt each even t, situation, decision, law, or policy to a "Supports Full Democracy", "Permits Flawed Democracy", "Minimizes Rights for Citizens (and Legal Residents", as well as "Tilts Towards Undue Influence", or even the extreme "Autocracy Warning". Your interpretation of how well each co-equal branch - House and Senate, Executive, Judiciary - are accomplishing what the first 3 articles of the US Constitution outlines in the explicit clauses. Apply all your Georgetown learnings and DC immersion to the principles and writings of the founders of our nation. Thanks Nate, we appreciate you!

You answered my question a few months ago about HR 9495 being DOA in the senate because time ran out. I'm worried about it being passed in the Senate if/when it does come up again and want to be in touch with my senators to let them know how I feel. How do I find out when that might be? I can see the history on Congress.gov, but want to be able to track it moving forward. Thanks again, Gabe!
