You are providing a very sexy service, Gabe, if that’s how that word is used nowadays. Many of us would have missed the details of our government’s working. I was particularly thrilled to read about the naming of the post office in Plains, Georgia, after the wonderful Jimmy and Roslyn Carter. I once visited that little town because Jimmy was such an honorable man, and he always remained “the Man from Plains” with great humility.
This is why I decided to become a paid subscriber. I want to hear about the unsexy stuff that happens that is beneficial but not what is put out on the mainstream news sources who want the "gotcha" stuff to catch the casual viewer.
I have a pipe-dream hope that Joe Manchin will run for president next cycle. I doubt he would get the nomination for either party because his stance has always been policy over party. As a West Virginian who hated his voting choices and called him wishy-washy before I understood his true center of gravity, I’m devastated that he’s leaving our legislature. I’m pretty scared for our current prospects. If he chooses to run though, I’ll vote for him regardless of what party gets in the nomination. He truly sees political parties the way they should be seen, as simple vehicles to move along the train that is working for your electors.
As a liberal Democrat who hasn’t voted for a Republican since the beginning of the Trump era, I agree with every bill that you cited in your piece today. The reason that this government is dysfunctional is that so many legislators refuse to compromise. They don’t realize that a non-perfect bill is better than no bill at all. Where is Henry Clay when we need him ??
Was especially impressed with the Tax Relief measure. Getting a discharge petition a vote in the House is hard enough, but to get almost 90% of the House to pass it, is quite extraordinary.
Excellent work and I think you nailed it. The lines of overlap have shifted. As someone who works in Ag and Education - I get to straddle the liberal-conservative urban-rural lines everyday. The constant similarities from each audience I work with is a populist-libertarian strain that is distrustful of any institution.

I too especially like to learn about the bills that do pass or move forward.

Thanks Gabe! Illustrative and hopeful - the best for the season!

It's very nice to see that some work happened this week.

Thank you Gabe for the clarity that you bring to our daily news.
Keep up the good work. Carroll

Wouldn’t it be great if Gabe was at the forefront of a huge movement to unsexy media?
