Wow great read today, Gabe! Thanks again! Good and thorough answers to some of the questions; and that was a great educational session about polls. I will try not to ignore them as much, they seem to be more accurate than I realized.
I appreciate your analysis, but I am getting very frustrated with so many post-mortem takes blaming support for Trans Rights as what has hurt the dems. It was a very low portion of the campaign's messaging, and--if anything--so much of the discussion about Trans Rights was because Republicans made it an issue over the past few years-passing awful laws at the state level that caused a panic about participation in sports, threatened families of trans kids, and caused panic about drag story hour. It was the republican's party's lies and disinformation that caused this rift, and hurt countless children and families in the process.
I strongly urge readers to read Parker Molloy's substack about this discourse:
Gabe, when will we hear about Trump's legal status related to his felony conviction? I have heard enough about what the Democrats should do. The polling information was informative and well presented. Is his felony conviction being swept under the carpet??
Good article today, especially the section on POTUS-elect conducting foreign policy. I don’t know the future Dem coalition would be good enough at balancing moral convictions on such things as trans youth rights and migrant rights (because, after all, it’s the right thing) with gaining popularity (Lukas Kunce and Dan Osborn garnered 42-46% of the votes in their respective Senate races, and combined a Sanders-style economic platform with gun nuttery, China hawkishness and rightist border skepticism). It’ll be a matter of better communications, but the thermostat theory is an immense reminder of the fickleness of the American public’s attention span
Gabe, Very impressed with and grateful for today's column! On the 'what should democrats do' question, I personally think both parties need to start facing the downsides of growth based economy and global (read shipping stuff everywhere) economy. I believe many social and natural environmental ills derive from these two ingrained philosophies/approaches and that they have lead to the lack of trust in all things big that we now see.
Good analysis..if the legal and political underpinnings hold. But Trump has expressly said he plans to terminate the constitution and his actions have shown a willingness to bypass the law (Jan 6/denial of election outcomes). I hope you're version is correct but I fear that that the real levers of power now belong to him.
The Democrats will have to realign and MEAN it. It can't just be window-dressing and "signaling". I think a LOT of voters were burned by Joe Biden, who promised he would govern as a moderate and did not. I think the Democrats are going to have to demonstrate a lot of bipartisan cooperation with Republicans to show that they've really reformed before they can expect to get the working class back.

If we are not careful, there will only be more harm for Trans individuals across the country.
Thank You, Gabe, you and Dean Obeidallah are so far the only two reporting on this today. Good Job for clearing this up, and will reStack ASAP 💯👍
