Assuming the Supreme Court eventually overturns one or several cases — and given this court I realize that’s a big assumption — which will land on its doorstep as a result of the Trump administration’s actions, how can the inevitable constitutional crisis be resolved when the SC has no enforcement power since the Judiciary and Military are clearly controlled by Trump and his cohorts?
I'm surprised by the number of Democrats in both chambers who fail to recognize the folly of allowing a Federal shutdown. You magnificently explained this last Thursday, yet a large number, perhaps a majority, of Democrats in congress fail to grasp that Schumer took the best of his two options. Don't these elected politicians read WUTP? How can they remain ignorant? Are they like many in the electorate who vote on emotions rather than on evidence and facts?
Does the Democrats party have any strategy? All I see is the Democrats acting like a deer in the headlights of a truck barreling down the highway toward it.
I keep getting solicited by Dem Pacs to contribute to them claiming Dems could win special elections to fill enough (3) vacancies to take back the House before November 2026 elections. What elections in what states? Is there any reality to this or do they just want money?
Here's another question: Do you see anyone in the Democratic Party who will champion and lead? Might the country be ready, in 2028, for a swing back to the Democrats, yet need a galvanizing candidate, as was FDR in '32, in order to win? Who's on your list? How about Sen. Chris Murphy?
Some Democrats have said that a shutdown would have given Democrats leverage since Republicans would have been unable to pass their planned spending bill during that period. What do you think of this argument?
As a follow up... waiting to call it a "Constitutional Crisis" seems like watching someone strangle a person and waiting until they are dead to call it murder.
Although Trump has used election fraud as a major campaign issue, Democrats seem reluctant to consider it (in the other direction, of course). Has there been any serious legal challenge to Musk’s million-dollar lottery to get people to vote? Given that they also bragged that they vetted any winner to make sure they voted “correctly,” this seems tantamount to paying for votes.
As a corollary to this, if it is deemed OK to pay people to vote, why don’t we have a nominal tax credit for people who have voted? As distressing as it is to consider money as an incentive to do one’s civic duty, it may have an impact on the chronic low voter turnout in America, particularly among those for whom a small financial incentive might make a difference.
My question: how in the world did our country get to a point where the election of one man to the office of president seems to now mean the total dismantling of the federal government? I would not have thought it possible.
Basically same question - since courts have no enforcement what comes next as the cheeto continues to ignore court orders. You are up on the technicalities of this, please help me understand. Thank you
Gabe, first thank you for being a responsible journalist. We need more of you.
Question- since Pres. Trump is not paying any attention to our Constitution, our court system, our law in general — can everyday citizens do the same thing and not pay our federal taxes? I’m struggling with the notion that my taxes are helping fund Trump’s dismantling of our democracy. And that just seems wrong at its core.
without giving away any secrets, do you see a way for Democrats to stop this ridiculous public squabbling and put together a unified platform of issues that will galvanize the public at large - Dems, indecided and even some brave Republicans. Chuck Schumer was in a losing position no matter what - there's plenty of talent to get beyond this minute.

Who is responsible for holding Elon Musk accountable for all his conflicts of interest and why isn't anything being done about it?
Me, too!
I have the same question
What do you expect to happen if congress continues to do nothing and Trump ignores the courts?

What as an individual citizen can I do right now to fight this constitutional crisis?

Do you have any advice on engaging with R representatives whose current loyalty is to donald?
Once someone is brave enough to declare a “Constitutional Crisis”, what happens next?
