Another pie-in-the-sky column. Yes, there are accountability problems - anyone who reads the news understands that. And yes, there should be something to force accountability on the Congress and the Executive. (The Judicial branch does some of that, but it is limited in both what it can do, and what it will do.)

But you know, Gabe, that this 'fourth branch' of yours has no chance of being created, either by congressional / executive action, or by a constitutional amendment. So why even bring it up? Just a waste of screen.

Gabe, you've taken away from us 40% of what we paid for, and quite a few of your columns aren't presenting information that is useful. Do you really expect us to pay you for this?

I like the spirit in which this is offered, but like other "watchdog agencies" (e.g., the so-called Consumer Finance Protection Board), it would be almost certainly immediately politicized and would lose its effectiveness thereby. Also, the LAST thing we need is another branch of government to be corrupted. You said we'd have to be careful that it wouldn't become another group unelected bureaucrats. That's exactly what it would be from the beginning.
