Thanks for the info. It’s a sad state of affairs when partisanship means more than democracy. Actually it’s terrifying. Now I no longer wonder how Hitler took over Germany or how the German people enabled the murder of 6 million Jews and thousands of Romany, LGBTQIA people, socialists, developmentally or physically challenged folks and other “enemies of the state” that were “poisoning” German blood. If they thought he wasn’t coming for them or their loved ones, they simply blocked the horrors from their minds and found excuses to be satisfied with more personal comforts.

To those who object to being called racist, homophobic, xenophobic or misogynistic but support the orange guy with money, their votes and violence I want to simply remind them of an old saying. If you lie down with dogs, you will get up with fleas.

I’m glad I’m old

Not even gonna try to educate you about this. But willful blindness is not peaceful or positive in any way. So sorry for your loss of any sense of history or truth

lol so in other words you cannot support your argument.

The truth is that the Left wing is leading the charge in hate and illiberalism. Trump is just standing in the way.

Nope. I'm a lifelong Democrat. If a Democratic POTUS was starting to lean in the dictatorial direction, I'd do everything I could to get him/her out of office.

It’s still necessary to point it out, from a moral perspective: https://www.signorile.com/p/calling-a-fascist-a-fascist-is-how

In any case, there could be a more cynical, strategic thinking behind it: Harris might have realized late in the campaign that she needs to drive up turnout in the Democratic base, ‘correcting’ for her appeals to the center-right, hence the openness to using the word.

In any case, it should not be denied that Harris needs to lean into the economy, and more specifically a left-populist stance, as Stanley Greenberg and the Center for Working-Class Politics have both pointed out: https://americanprospect.bluelena.io/p_v.php?l=1&c=2901&m=3003&s=a366d0d9276c43dab50be8460327dbfb

Do they think we’re imbeciles? It was the Democratic Party that worked with Twitter to censor Americans. Google “Twitter Files.” See also Zuckerberg’s comments regarding COVID19 censorship.

Fine reporting and analysis here, Gabe. Keep it up.

One of the things that was referred to, but not analyzed, are *which* actions I'd be comfortable with the President taking without Congress's authorization. While I might be accepting of an effort to boost the ability to charge EV vehicles, for example, I'd be very concerned about a directive to reorganize the Department of Defense. So, what would I answer if I took the poll?

On another note, at this point in time, the candidates and their surrogates usually have been crisscrossing the nation in a search for votes. (See the last season of West Wing.) Yet there seem to be very few appearances by them - Ms. Harris only has one rally on her schedule today. Am I missing something, or are the candidates running a much different campaign this year.

I often see a general confusion with socialism=fascism. There's a general ignorance unfortunately that keeps people from understanding why anyone (regardless of party) in unchecked power in a country is a very bad thing.

So glad I have read your newsletter for years and that I paid for a subscription. Your work is amazing and you are amazing. Would you ever do a Zoom call with our Israeli Shaliach (who's a journalist) and the Jewish Federation and Foundation of Northeast Florida (Jacksonville) Israel and Overseas Committee? Anytime is good for a presentation with you if you're available sometime. Thanks!

Of course partisanship means more than "democracy"!

Example: the Democrats were very happy to have abortion and same-sex marriage imposed on society by court orders. They did not care one whit for whether or not these policies would (at the time) be approved by a vote of the people.

The same continues today. Example: the Biden-Harris Ed Dept and EEOC have ruled (with the force of law) that boys and men must be allowed to use any female facility (changing room, shower) at every school and at every workplace in the country, provided only that the boy or man declares (just before entering) that he, for the moment, has a female "gender identity". And he can declaim that "identity" as soon as he's done ogling the naked girls.

Polling shows that this is (duh!) highly unpopular. The Democrats in office could not possibly care less about that.

So: this country is nowhere close to being a "democracy": literally, rule by the common people.

And this may be why very few of us care to promulgate the fiction that it is.

The "ism" glossary (Author Unknown):

Socialism: If you have two cows, you give one to your neighbor.

Communism: If you have two cows, you give both to the the government and then the government gives you some milk.

Fascism: If you have two cows, you keep the cows and give the milk to the government; then the government sells you some milk.

Naziism: If you have two cows, the government shoots you and keeps the cows.

Capitalism: If you have two cows, you sell one and buy a bull.

And Shlomo says that Trumpism works like this - If you have two cows, bring them to the White House in 2025. Free cheeseburgers for everyone (bring your own condiments). It will be WILD!

So good to know the depth and breadth of our nation’s voters faith and adherence to Democracy.

It does not surprise me, but it is also subject to change, so there is always hope for improvement.

Obvious example: because of Congress inaction, Trumps orders to control our leaky border. Then Biden undid them by similar action (almost immediately)causing the mess we have now. Just listened to Neil Diamond's "Coming to America". Actually listened to the words. Chill bumps. Recommended.
