If you’ve ever clicked the links in the Supreme Court section of my daily “Day ahead” feature, then you’ve benefitted from the coverage of SCOTUSBlog, an excellent source for independent Supreme Court coverage.
Last month, the legal world was shocked when Tom Goldstein — the superstar lawyer who co-founded the blog — was indicted by federal prosecutors for allegedly evading taxes and using funds from his law firm to pay his poker debts.
This New York Magazine profile is a great look at Goldstein’s rise and fall: how he built his Supreme Court practice from nothing (he identified before anyone else that the court liked to settle “circuit splits,” issues that appeals courts were divided on, and attached himself to such cases early) and how he (literally) gambled it away.
