If it’s Sunday, it’s time to answer reader questions. In this week’s edition, I’ll answer questions on:

  • What happens when the U.S. enters a constitutional crisis

  • Why Trump is taking on the Ivy League

  • What’s behind the Trump administration’s focus on birth rates

  • The gender breakdown of deportations

  • Whether writing to the Supreme Court has any impact on

  • And more!

Let’s dive in…

Q: Following your book discussion on Mad House, I decided to read Mitt Romney's biography. This quote is from the prologue: “A very large portion of my party really doesn’t believe in the Constitution.” I find this thoroughly disheartening. It causes me to think that many in Congress are actually on board with the United States becoming an autocracy. What is your take on this?

Mitt Romney has obviously served with Republican members of Congress, and I haven’t, but from the outside, that isn’t necessarily how I would describe the problem here.
