Your headline is a head scratcher. Risky for who? It seems you think that this selection is a less certain one for Trump, but that's you assuming that our future dictator-in-chief will follow the normal Senate review and approval process.
To me the answer is risky for America. Trump has named a FOX NEWS HOST as his nominee for the head of the armed forces. You can better believe that firing generals who won't kowtow to Trump will be at the top of his to-do list once he's confirmed.
I've already stopped reading the legacy media who sane-washed us into this nightmare. You are young and talented. PLEASE, I beg of you, stop acting as if this is business as usual in DC. Please start reporting what is really happening. Our country's future is at stake. Or I will definitely cancel this subscription too and encourage others to do so as well. There are brave journalists out there who are doing smart, insightful analysis of what's really going on. You could be one of them too.
Please don't stop reading the legacy media. It's the people who don't read it that got us into this mess, not the people who do. I get that you would like to see more outrage. I would too. But I am not convinced that putting ourselves into a voluntary echo chamber (which is what you are essentially proposing to do) is a solution to our nation's problems.
Unfortunately, after the news today, the nomination of Hegseth can’t carry a candle to the nomination of Gaetz, in terms of riskiness, and insanity I. Ight add.
Gabe, George Schultz's tattoo is just silly. Hegseth's tattoos are the most frightening thing about him, and you didn't mention them. (Neither did WaPo, but I don't expect anything from them.)
Hegseth's tattoos include symbols associated with Christian Nationalism and militant gun rights (along with other less fringe movements). That he is otherwise superbly unqualified only adds to the ick factor.
Please include as much information as possible when commenting on Trump choices. It's imperative to see his people for the nasty, dangerous, creepy people that they are.
Has anyone taken a look at precincts that went big for Trump and correlated them with long-time underperforming public school districts? Might be interesting to look at states as well. So far that is the only way I can understand the election result.
Gabe - seems like 2026 midterms might be set up by Team Trump as referendum on 1.) Trump admin successes and 2.) DOGE recommendations and their passage in 2027. July 4, 2026 isn’t a random number to look cute with America’s birthday. Also, is Huckabee first evangelical (and former Baptist pastor) to be ambassador to Israel?
Hedseth snd Noem look good on tv, which seems to be qualification highly regarded by the president-elect. Rubio goes to State because Trump wants to humiliate him and the State Department, so that it is not a competing power center as it was under Pompeo, that’s clear.
I hope the senate goes not agree to blanket recess appointments. This is shaping up to be another GOP made mess.
The only positive I see is that Gabe and hopefully others will continue to uphold journalistic standards in the face of a new administration hostile to reporting.
Reaganomics increased the deficit, particularly defense, and so will Trump. Why doesn't anyone every believe what Trump says? Lauding "The Manhattan Project" is an escalation of world aggression and spending (2 billion). Musk is not heading a department to help "dismantle Government Bureaucracy" and slash excess regulations to help taxpayers. He is enrinching himself and the rest of the MAGA cronies.
Gabe I think Suzie Wiles is a good pick, the only one Unfortunately she won't be able to keep the clown car out of the WH Numbers 2 and 3 are on the way
Wiles will be gone in six months, maybe sooner She's probably already cringing at Trump's picks
I only hope you're right about Hegseth being the riskiest (to us) - but there are all those Jan 6 people he can name once they're out of prison. And Alex Jones is looking for work.
Interesting Prez picks, Gabe! Thank you for the inside information on them. The only positive I can see with putting a FOX news host (hahaha what???) into that position is to have someone look into cutting that ridiculously HUGE budget that Defense keeps raising every year going to bombs, Beltway Bandit consultants, and destruction. At least he has been in service in Afghanistan.

Hey Gabe ....
Has anyone taken a look at precincts that went big for Trump and correlated them with long-time underperforming public school districts? Might be interesting to look at states as well. So far that is the only way I can understand the election result.
Best.
