What are the prospects for the 3 Minneapolis shooters (1 on Good, 2 on Pretti) to face criminal or civil charges despite VP Vance claiming immunity for them?
Impeachment should not be the focus of the Democratic Party. This is an example of why they keep losing elections. Better to focus on getting their approval ratings above that of Trump
Not sure when the Democratic Party came into the question. It is more that this man has acted in ways that would have had anyone else impeached and convicted. I was looking for a comment on whether there is anything he could do that would finally get a sufficient number of people to say enough.
To answer your question directly, no. Trump has overstepped the US Constitution nearly two dozen times during his two terms but none are egregious enough to force the GOP to abandon him. And Trump isn't stupid enough to do something that severe (e.g., wiretap opponents, caught with child pornography, video proof of rape, selling of military secrets for $, etc)
Maybe individually but irrelevant to the question if it would cause the GOP to sign on for another Trump impeachment. If Trump became trans tomorrow, the GOP would probably push back more than they have but they would still largely be in lockstep with him
I was largely being facetious as I pointed out what Republicans care about more. Thinking back to some comedian (Colbert?) in 2016 after the Access Hollywood tape who joked that Trump would have to do more than that to lose support from the Christian Right, like marry a man.
I think the impeachment would have to start in the House - there isn't enough political will for that to happen - but if there was and it passes, then it would be passed to the Senate.
I realize that impeachment would start in the House. However, if there are 17 (or 20) Senators ready to convict, I expect that there would be the 4 or so members of the House ready to impeach.
Hi Gabe I strongly encourage all your readers to watch this short and brilliant documentary “Bringing Down a Dictator”. It is about the grassroots student-led non-violent movement that brought down Milosevic in Serbia. The post-election showdown where the police faced off against hundreds of thousands of protesters and then stood down is one of the most incredible things I have ever seen. Despite the massive potential for violence, only two people died, one of a heart attack and the other of a traffic accident. This should be the blueprint for resistance to Trump.
Gabe, please keep us informed on potential charges related to all the deaths at the hands of individuals working for ICE. It would be devastating if their deaths did not result in criminal charges.
Has ICE and Border Patrol always worn masks? President Obama was called the “Deporter in Chief “ what were the methods used in his administration? And how do they compare to the methods used in the Trump administrations?
Are all ICE agents armed with guns? Why are ICE agents armed with guns when working with the general public?
With the influx of new ICE employees what is the federal govt doing to ensure they are fully trained and prepared to safely and responsibly carry out their duty in the field? What does the evaluation process look like for agents who engage with the public?
What are the odds that the movement to impeach Kristi Noem will at least lead to a vote? To impeachment? Conviction? (or is it too early to tell the last one?)
Is it true that if government shuts down funding for homeland security and ICE will continue until 2027 thanks to the big beautiful bill passed in 2020
Gabe, from your perspective is there still hope for our country, as far as getting back to our constitution and our normal values such as speaking the truth and treating everyone with respect??
Let’s talk about stories the media is largely ignoring:
Should undocumented children be entitled to a free, public education? In 1980, the Supremes ruled in Plyler that they should; in 2025, the TN Senate said they should not. (The TN House didn’t take the measure up, so it died). Seems like a HUGE story.
Lost in the anger over ICE/CBP shootings in MN is the fact that a hyper local politician was attacked by the President of the United States. We’re talking a Mayor. What happens when the President attacks a hyper local elected School Committee?
Obviously, the shut down is main news. So why can't Republicans offer enough to Democrats to get ICE off the front page? It's in Trump's/Republican's interests.
Since my questions last week got 3 likes, I'll repeat:
(1) Based on podcast comment about Dems not polling well enough for tsunami mid-terms (leading question): aren’t all those granular polls irrelevant when you consider that Dems are terrified and furious at all things Trump and he will do 25 more outrageous things by November, all of which suggest a tsunami? (2) is there anything that (a) Trump can do or (b) otherwise can happen that will split the MAGA base enough that Trump will lose his grip over enough of the Republican base that he will lose power?

Is there anything the President could do, any line he could cross, that would cause 17 Republican Senators to vote to convict his impeachment?

Hard to imagine—maybe if he came out as transgender.
And for the current Senate it would take 20 Republicans with sanity and a backbone.
Wouldn't be enough. Being trans isn't illegal
But to most House and Senate Republicans, it is way worse than things like corruption and illegal power grabs.

Hi Gabe. How often, and under what circumstances, can the budget resolution process be used to avoid the Senate filibuster? Thanks.

Texas won its independence from Mexico in 1836.
In 1845, Texas joined the USA as a state.
The United States did not BUY Texas. It was our choice.
