From the Editor's Desk
Hi everyone! I’ve been getting a lot of emails recently about people not receiving the Wake Up daily, which worries me, since it is sent daily.
If there are days when you aren’t getting an edition of Wake Up To Politics: please email me and let me know so I can see if there’s anything I can do.
A good thing to do always is check your “Spam” or “Junk” folder in your email, because many email filters send the Wake Up there. If you move an email from the Spam filter once, all emails from the address should go straight to your inbox from now on.
I AM NOT SPAM
Anyways…email me if you’re having problems!

Senate Fails to Override Obama Keystone Veto The Senate voted 62 to 37 Wednesday on overriding President Obama’s veto of a bill to construct the Keystone XL pipeline; with 67 votes required to override, the vote failed and Obama’s veto was sustained.
All 54 Republicans were joined by eight Democrats – Michael Bennet (CO), Tom Carper (DE), Robert Casey (PA), Heidi Heitkamp (ND), Joe Manchin (WV), Claire McCaskill (MO), Jon Tester (MT), and Mark Warner (VA) – in voting to override the veto. Nine Democrats voted in support of the bill in January (the ninth was Indiana’s Joe Donnelly, attending a funeral in his home state during Wednesday’s vote).
Keystone XL is a proposed 1,179-mile pipeline that would cross from Canada to Nebraska, costing $8 billion in construction and carry as many as 830,000 barrels of oil per day. Supporters of the proposed pipeline argue that it would improve the economy and boost job creation, while those opposed cite the effect on the environment. Although there are some holdouts, most Democrats oppose the pipeline; and most Republicans support it – as do a majority of Americans. Whether or not the pipeline should be constructed has become a rallying cry for both environmentalists on the left and conservatives on the right, and the debate has reached Congress, the courts, the White House, and State Department.
President Obama’s veto of the measure last month, and the Senate’s failure to override the veto (which would have required two-thirds support from both house of Congress), effectively closes the chances of Keystone XL being approved by legislative means.
However, the State Department continues to conduct its analysis of the pipeline; after six years of work, the review is now in its final stages. President Obama’s veto is no guarantee that his administration will block the pipeline: the State Department could still green-light it, allowing construction to go forward.

As Her Emails Are Subpoenaed, Clinton Says She Wants the Public To See Them Two days after the New York Times reported that she had used a personal email account as Secretary of State (see Tuesday’s Wake Up), Hillary Clinton broke her silence on the controversy Wednesday night, tweeting, “I want the public to see my email. I asked State to release them. They said they will review them for release as soon as possible.”
With the Times report, many have accused Clinton of trying to hide her emails from being recorded, since they were not on an official server.
After Clinton’s tweet, a State Department spokesman told reporters, “We will undertake this review [of Secretary Clinton’s emails] as quickly as possible.” One way or another, the emails won’t stay with Clinton for much longer – as the House Select Committee on Benghazi subpoenaed “all communications of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton related to Libya” Wednesday, including personal emails, while the panel continues investigating the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya that occurred during Clinton’s tenure at State.
---LINKS: Both CNN and the Washington Post are reporting that there is movement inside the “anybody-but-Hillary” wing of the Democratic Party: the email controversy has energized the search for a Clinton alternative.
---I wonder if Hillary Clinton’s server would send me to Spam…
