Hello all! As you may have noticed, Wake Up To Politics was unfortunately not sent out most of last week. My family had a pretty tough week, and I just wasn’t able to send out any newsletters. If you noticed and thought you fell of the mailing list, don’t worry: none were sent out. I apologize, but thank you for understanding.
As for this week: there is a very short newsletter today with just a few scheduling updates (see below), tomorrow there will be a full Wake Up with primary previews, on Wednesday and Thursday there will be primary results and other news, and then on Friday, I go on Spring Break to return on Monday, April 4.
Thanks again for understanding.
Gabe Fleisher,
Editor-in-Chief
Wake Up To Politics
White House Watch
The President’s Schedule At 11:15am, President Obama will visit the State Department to address the 6th annual Global Chiefs of Mission Conference, a gathering of Ambassadors and mission chiefs from U.S. embassies around the world.
At 12:30pm, the President will hold his weekly lunch with Vice President Joe Biden.
At 5:30pm, President and First Lady Obama will speak at a performance of musical selections from HAMILTON by the production’s Broadway cast. The performance is a culmination of a daylong event for students hosted by the First Lady with the cast and creators of HAMILTON, which will test out the production’s new educational initiative.
For HAMILTON creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, the White House performance will be a return to “the building where it happens”: he debuted the musical’s opening number (“Alexander Hamilton”) at a White House Evening of Poetry, Music and the Spoken Word hosted by the Obamas in May 2009.

Capitol Hill News
Senate: Today At 5:30pm, the upper chamber will vote on the nomination of John B. King, Jr. to be U.S. Secretary of Education. King has served as Acting Secretary since January, when Arne Duncan vacated the post. Previously, King served as New York State Education Commissioner.
When Duncan’s resignation was announced last year, King was initially expected to serve as Acting Secretary until the end of President Obama’s term in office. However, he was quietly submitted for formal consideration by the Senate last month, and approved by the Senate Health Education, Labor and Pensions Committee in a 16-6 vote last week.
While King is expected to be confirmed, senators from both parties have indicated plans to vote against his nomination, including Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), James Lankford (R-OK), and Richard Burr (R-NC).
House: Today The lower chamber will consider 14 measures today:
three bills dealing with regulated utilities, government energy efficiency, and broadband;
eight bills extending deadlines for hydroelectric dam licenses;
two resolutions condemning the acts of ISIL as genocide and calling for a war crimes tribunal;
one bill supporting Taiwan’s gaining observer status in the International Criminal Police Organization;
and one bill extending authorization of the FAA.
