The "settlement" by Disney/ABC news should have been your top story. The forces of Trump/MAGA can slander, libel, and defame with near impunity— for example referring to Joe Biden as a pedophile and as the head of a "crime family". Not one charge proven - despite massive effort to do so.

Trump/MAGA is simultaneously using libel law to attack legitimate critics in an attempt to chill everyone else’s speech....He was found guilty of what the judge said explicitly was, under the legal definition, "rape". But the intimidation worked to the tune of a $15 million "settlement". Corporate America is on bended knee, paying tribute (contributions to the inauguration), and the Corporate news media is cowed behind lawyers parsing every word. They will soon be the envy of Russian media. And the GOP is in the boot licking mode in their role to "advise and consent" to some of the worst cabinet nominees ever put forth. We truly should not care if Trump is "popular" - he/his movement is dangerous! I think it may fall on independent journalists, such as yourself, to be the only ones with backbone.

Good article, Gabe. I had no idea any of that was going on with his approval rating. Honeymoon phases never last but since he is so unpredictable it will be interesting to see what leading decisions he makes in the next 7 months. Those decisions, I think, will either keep the net positive simply "steady" or they will flat out tank him a good 20 points. Our current climate is in a bit of an uncertain era. Given that, I just don't see the leading decisions he makes after January 20th spiking his net positivity to the likes of former President Obama. But I'm no fortune teller.

If Dylan was the unwashed phenomena, Trump must be the washed phenomena. Not since Andrew Jackson, has any president taken Washington by this sort of storm. Whatever may be said of Trump, like the Eveready Bunny, he just keeps on going, and somehow, stays at or near the top.

"Of course, honeymoons don’t last forever, and Trump’s won’t either. For Biden, all it took was one embarrassing event — the Afghanistan withdrawal — for his favorability rating to plummet and never recover. Something similar will likely happen for Trump."

Agree that without a doubt events will occur that cause his ratings to plummet - but "never recover"? Possible sure, but likely? You recognized that he was never given a chance before and now that he is you don't think it is more likely that he will also try to get his favorability ratings as high as possible and keep them there? I am hopeful that you continue to be honest and call yourself out if Trump ends up in 2028 with a positive favorability, or at least one better than Biden...

We’ve seen a Trump presidency all ready. His continual crises were never forced on him. Give it up.
