Mills seems great but it’s time for the younger( more in touch) candidates to take over. These old folks ( snd I’m one of them) need to know when to support, mentor younger candidates snd then step away in support. There is fo much they can help with but let today’s fighters take over.

As a two other commentators note, it’s time for a younger generation. I admire and respect Janet Mills, know she has been an excellent governor (even if I am not always in agreement with her stands). But honestly, she has a divided following here in Maine and her age, despite saying she will only serve one term, will work against her. Nationally her stand against Trump was applauded, but the scrutiny and reprisals due to Trumps vengeance caused many voters to wonder if she kicked the hornets nest at her constituents cost.

Thanks, Gabe. I loved your last piece about the five year old and President Carter. It's nice to smile after so much depressing news! Keep up your good work.

Backing Mills shows the cluelessness of Dem leadership.

She lost me at "Mills was heavily pushed to run by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY)." Chuck is so far out of touch. The gerontocracy needs to step aside. I will not support any candidate that the DSCC picks. That is a big fat loser.

Thank you for showing America Ryan, and that good things are still happening. Would love to see a view of his tour at The Carter Center.

Speaking of the younger generation I applaud young Ryan. He’s already demonstrating what an American is. 😊

My father-in-law used to quote Emerson (or Machiavelli): “when you strike at a king, you must kill him.” Many on the media and in government service chose to strike at Trump beyond the norms of good journalism or wise use of prosecutorial power. They thought they could prevent or kill Trump before he became king because they could not conceive (and still cannot conceive) that a large segment of this country are not on board with their progressive agenda. They now reap what they sowed to the detriment of all of us.

Those reporters who are known by military personnel to be trustworthy will get the information they need to do their job. It might be harder and the reporters may have to more carefully scrutinize whether release of some information is necessary to keep our nation informed of national security issues or just pushes their own world view. (I think the declaration in the joint statement that U.S. journalists have a duty to keep the “world” informed is an arrogant overstatement.) No agreements or credentials can substitute for honor and trust. Press freedom and independence does not free media from a duty of care in what they report.

What you are describing, in my mind, is where we need to return in journalism. What if the media all stopped engaging in rage baiting and click baiting and instead only wrote stories that were scrutinized and carefully written? Yes the world of constantly breaking news would slow down, but that would be ok by me.

With so many openly and blatantly criminal things going on with this administration - Hatch Act Violations, bribes, play for play - there also appears to be no effort to curb or address it. With the DOJ so corrupt, is there any way to stop it?

Gabe, what do think about the pledge Hegseth’s asked the media to sign?

I am ALL FOR supporting the troops and the leaders at the Pentagon—and keeping classified information safe—but I don’t think we need to go as far as restricting reporting on the military during peacetime.

The Pentagon has a press office that releases pre-authorized statements. The DoD (and Pete Hegseth) have active social media accounts they can use to share their message. No need to commandeer the press.

I’m curios, is WUtP showing up in everyone’s newsfeeds still, in the tab with the inbox icon ?📥

It no longer does for me, and I’m a paying subscriber who (to my knowledge lol) hasn’t changed any settings. I’ve tried to figure out how to add it back but have had no luck. So now every day I have to go to the search tab to find the day’s new post. Anyone else?
