I can say as a person who worked most of my life in low paying jobs where I paid into social security and then just 9 years in a government job where I did not, this bill would benefit myself and my family. I wasn’t going to receive much social security but when they take 40% of that away it really hurts (especially because after only 9 years of CalPers I don’t take much home from that either). Reforming the bill to address circumstances such as mine would be much better than tossing it out altogether.
Positive news! Thank-you posting this information. We are told that our political system is broke but your writings show that work is getting done. This type of reporting is why I respect the writings on substack. Just the rambling thoughts of an old hermit.
"In today’s newsletter, I’ll fill you in on bipartisan bills that advanced in Congress this week to help kids in foster care. To help kids with cancer. To boost government transparency. To help veterans. To research Alzheimer’s and Down syndrome. To combat tuberculosis. And much, much more."
Thank you Gabe. Music to my ears hearing some good news. You are the Mozart of the Media
You are SO right. No one covers this news. If not for your coverage, I would share the widespread assumption that little is passed, and then only by thin margins. Why can’t the mainstream media offer a weekly feature like yours?
Hello Gabe from a fellow St. Louisan. Congratulations on your remarkable career. It's hard to believe how young you are and how much you have already accomplished. Keep up the good work!
Good Job! here this morning ☕ Gabe💯 You point out just how broken Corporate Media is. You, and several other progressive journalist, are doing the hard work to bring us the Facts and the Truth.I appreciate You 💙🇺🇸🌊🌊
I’m glad to hear about the Executive Branch Transparency and Accountability Act. I also immediately wondered if there is a congruent act for the legislature themselves. I’m glad they’re working toward transparency for other tax funded employees…
Ok several bills came out of committee and a couple more passed one house or the other but I think you reported 3 or maybe 4 bills actually are ready for Biden to sign. Nothing in any of these bills should be controversial except maybe the one on social security and other government pensions which I agree is long overdue especially for first responders. That said it is barely the work of 1 day, hardly enough to out weigh the lack of either a spending bill or a continuing resolution without a poison pill. I know you are trying to highlight things actually getting done but most of what you highlighted is no where near being done. The damage to people’s lives and peace of mind threatened by a government shutdown is unconscionable and all the posturing is beyond the pale. No rose tinted glasses will change the pain and fear. Or make me not despise the maga control and lack of compliance with their oath of office.
Thank you for sharing this information with us, needed when we are being blasted by such negativity
Thank you for reading!
Keep up the great reporting, Gabe.

How old does one have to be to run for Congress? and if you decide to go that direction, you’ve got my vote!
Only 25, so Gabe can start thinking about it!
It's so interesting to see what actually IS being done!
