Great read today! Can't wait to grab my popcorn and watch the circus! Yes, old age and second term limit laws combined are pretty high obstacles to overcome. Great news for the US.

It's sometimes funny to read these a day late...that photo of Gaetz is incredible (he looks like claymation), and it's (mildly) comforting to know Gaetzgate may be in the rear view mirror after today.

Gabe, excellent summary and explanation of the presidential powers, (recess) appointments, 3rd term etc. issues!

With respect to presidential term limits: given the changes in life span and the complexity of making any meaningful changes, even in 8 years, it makes more sense to me to have 5 year terms limited to 2 terms. The amendment seems now like an overreaction to FDR’s popularity and health issues. I wish that all presidents would take the role of preparing vice presidents for succession seriously, both in their nomination process and throughout their presidency. Imagine if Harris had been allowed a substantial public role … The country was lucky in getting Johnson & Truman (instead of Wallace).

On Trump not “running” for a 3rd term because of a constitutional provision…hey, there’s a bridge up here called “the bridge to nowhere,” I can let you have it for 20% off.

Agreed that there's no way Trump can run again. But assuming he still wants to be president in 2028, which he may not because of his age but may feel he must to avoid sentencing in his NY criminal trial, what happens if he just doesn't leave? He did say during the campaign that he thinks that's what he should have done last time.

It would create a constitutional crisis, no question. But at the end of the day, if it really came down to it, I imagine the Secret Service would remove him from the White House if he refused to go.

I am more concerned that Trump will die during this term leaving Vance as the incumbent in 2028. Horrifying thought.

I never wish for anyone's death, but if Vance was to become president I think he would be very unpopular going into an election. Only Trump is Trump, and I don't think anyone else will be able to captivate people the way he does. (Assuming that Trump admin 2 isn't able to deliver on improving people's lives in the way they promised, that is.)
