It seems to me that passing a bill that calls for investigation, analysis and corrective action plans doesn’t actually solve any of the problems. The head of the prison system was recently interviewed by 60 minutes and she listed many issues that she knows but does not have the resources to address. The most critical problem is staffing and without additional funding the system will not be able to hire enough guards and support service staff in this competitive job market. It is hard to find people willing to take a difficult and yes dangerous job for the low wages correction officers are paid. And it will be almost impossible to run a prison at all if they also need to fire a bunch of corrupt and dangerous guards on top of having 40% vacancies. So yes it’s nice that everyone seems to agree on the investigation, the real proof of intention to fix our prison system will be agreeing to fund the corrective actions.
Anyone else feel like ““I believe I’m the best qualified to govern,” Biden said Thursday, dismissing internal critics. “And I think I’m the best qualified to win.”” and claiming he’s not in it for his own legacy are contradictory sentiments?
For what it’s worth, it’s not that the FAFSA was released late which caused the havoc, it’s that it’s still not completely up-and-running. ED has committed to releasing it on time this year, but most of my colleagues in the financial aid world would much rather they release it late and functional than on-time and full of problems.
The Bureau of Prisons story was excellent. Can we be sure that you'll follow up on some of the deadlines listed. Given the plethora of major stories bouncing around.
At this point, the replacement may not have any better luck than Biden, and possibly worse. Biden, for better or worse needs a big move. A new Vice-President would do it. FDR changed Vice-Presidents, maybe it is time for Biden to do so, thinking of who he would like to replace him.

Some are wondering why Trump didn't bounce higher after The Debate, and are suggesting that Trump has reached his ceiling in support.

Teachers, nurses and secretaries are now pulling guard duty!?! I think we now know who is really running the WH! ELECTION KAMALA
Thanks for this excellent piece about our shameful prisons, and the hopeful news about the bill.
Didn’t 60 Minutes just run a story on the prison system and short staffing?
