I am an AP Government teacher and I so appreciate your thorough analysis and nonpartisan approach to so much of what you write about. It has helped me immensely in explaining the roller coaster that has been the Trump re-election and resumption of office. Thank you for all your hard work and thorough research.
The Washington Post fact checked Trump's claims in his recent tariff speech and showed it to be a constant stream of exaggerations, mis-information and, what can only be termed, lies coming from a president of the United States. I can't get my arms around how any elected officials can support this.
The Washington Post is a Left-sided publication. Of course, it checked everything that Trump said. Have you ever read a publication that you can compare the two points of view - like thinking, reasoning, challenging what was written, and asking WHY?
Few and far between Fletcher! But that kind of publication is why I read Gabe's Wake up to Politics. I would normally agree to your observation on WAPO, but I believe they recently capitulated to an administration threat/demand to neutralize their op-eds.
What happens from here on out will be interesting to watch. The 1st Amendment
will more than likely be thrown in The Donald's face. As in college students voicing their right to protest the Israel/Gaza situation.....nasty as it is.
My lady glumly commented to me today that our present dust-up with Trump et. Co. feels a bit like David vs. Goliath. I agreed, but then she smiled when I reminded her that DAVID WON!
Thanks, Gabe, for the thorough analysis. I’ll have to have my husband, a former math professor, look at this equation. Trump is no genius at coming up with math formulas so I’m curious as to who did. It reads like something cooked up to seem “intelligent” and “factual” so people might think he knows what he’s doing, which I doubt.
Question unrelated to this post - if the White House decides to reorganize the Brady Press Room to favor non-traditional media, are you eligible for a front seat?
Who tell President Trump about Thomas Friedman's recent trip to China and what he saw, discovered there and repored? From what I've learned China has made itself great within the last three years constructing an Advanced Research and Development entity that it will be difficult for us to either emulate or catch up to. I am sorry and frightened to hear about this because I want America to succeed to be made great again.
Thanks for your clear and clean reporting, Gabe. You outline how Congress’s ability to end the emergency is hampered by the President’s ability to veto. I’m surprised to learn that the president has veto power over a congressional act that isn’t creating a law. If the back and forth (claim emergency, deny emergency, veto denial, overrule veto) is as you describe, what is to stop the president from claiming a new (effectively similar, but technically different) emergency immediately after being overruled? Given the large difference in speed with which the two branches can act, the time spent under declared emergencies would dwarf the time spent out from under them…
Trump’s math looks cockamamie but we can’t keep buying more than we are selling and borrowing to fund what we deem to be essential programs. More attention must be focused on supply chains and on self sufficiency with respect to necessary goods and materials. I don’t have high expectations for this economic reset and would like to see Congress apply its grey matter with the same care that Gabe has done.
Wow! What an in-depth analysis! Is it possible for you to do a similar analysis for an alternative solution to our budgeting problem? If the world's richest men in the US would agree to taxes that would balance the budget or at least stall the increase, what would they have to give up?

Jim.
Appreciate this thorough analysis.

This was was a brilliant and digestible analysis, thank you so much!

This is great, thank you.

Excellent summary, thank you.
correction: 64% say he isn't focusing enough on lowering prices
Thank you, Gabe.
I appreciate all your articles. They are so thorough and nonpartisan and it’s exactly what we need right now!
