I am delighted to hear this! I read (or scan) several newspapers, including The Guardian (which i applaud!) and always this independent WAKE UP TO POLITICS of yours, for many years now. (I am in my late 70’s, so have lived through lots of politics!)
I have stayed with yours because of my deep admiration of the clarity and straightforward INFORMATIONAL quality. Today was the first day i recall having read YOUR goals and guidelines for yourself, and yes, you consistently meet those, staying steady in unsteady times.
Deep down, i would wish that you deviated from your non-partisan goal, espousing instead what was first journalistically declared by David Brooks in a magnificent Opinion piece in the NYTimes: “Never Trump”, or Anyone but Trump, a man i see as terribly unfit. But i understand that then you would not be who you have chosen to be, and for which i greatly admire you.
You have always written with a particular groundedness which i would never want you to lose.
Thank you, Mr. Fleisher, for your stunning contribution.
Congratulations! I love and support your decision 100%, Mr. Fleisher. You might be pigeon-holed if you worked for those other companies your college friends went to so do not regret that; and besides, you already have so much real-time experience it would be a shame to have to hang that up now by joining corporate life and culture. Real success is starting your own business and taking it from there! My advice is to always Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) all business decisions and it will aid you to be continually doing the right thing. I will miss randomly donating to you at various times of the year, but this will be much more consistent income and hence easier to gauge and grow your business. I look forward to this subscription, and thank you for pushing me to join Substack. Congratulations again!
I’m so stoked to hear that you’ve decided to continue publishing Wake Up to Politics and I know that thousands of your readers will support your work - I’ve just signed up as a monthly subscriber and will upgrade to an annual subscription once I financially recover from my son’s graduation from Cal Poly SLO 😁
I’ve got to say it one more time: congratulations, Gabe!! 🥳👏🏽👏🏽
Gabe, I'm a long-time reader and fan of your work. I am honored to continue to support you with a subscription service. Congratulations on the leap of faith to continue pursuing your passion. That's the American Dream.
Best of luck to you! Feel free to message me if you have any general questions regarding American legal processes. I can assist on an informal, non-client basis.
Gabe, Congratulations! I have subscribed due to "I considered putting the Friday newsletters, where I recap examples of government function, behind a paywall, but decided against it, because I feel like it’s the most important, civic-minded work I do each week and I want it to keep it accessible to all. "
May this new chapter bring much continued success! Good luck, H
WUTP is new to me (recommended by Chris Cilliza). You sound like a solid young man, wirh a great mom, who presents political issues in a basic, non dramatic way, which is what I seek. I hope this path is successful for you.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you and to following the issues of the day through WUTP .
Gabe, I first started reading your emails almost near the beginning. I was charmed by the origin story and read each email. But when the economy fell apart & Harvard made a very generous early retirement offer to administrative staff who fit certain criteria, I took it. But it did mean giving up my work email account and I lost you. I chose to move back to TX to support my 87 yr old mother. What I thought would be a few years was actually much longer as she lived in good health to 100. I have recently returned to Tucson, a long ago home, and in the midst of Trump-induced trauma, I remembered you. Your intelligence and writing skills were impressive as a child. I was curious what had happened to you. It was a delight to find you were still writing! I even shared a column recently with my MAGA sister & she responded that she thought it was an example of real journalism and ended with a “Good job, Gabe!” line.
Yesterday I discovered that my bank account is in a mess, but as soon as I straighten that out I will definitely be subscribing. Very soon, I hope.

Good move getting onto Substack. 90% of what I read every day is on Substack, and I am happy to read your contributions there instead of on email.

Congratulations Gabe!! I have been following you for many years after I saw a CNN clip of you back in high school.
