  • National Review Publishes Anti-Trump Special Issue Dozens of conservative writers have banded together to pen an anti-Trump manifesto in a special issue of National Review being published today. “Against Trump,” reads the cover of the noted conservative magazine.
  • The issue includes essays from many top conservatives, including Cato Institue’s David Boaz, the Weekly Standard’s William Kristol, the Club for Growth’s David McIntosh, RedState’s Eric Erickson, radio host Glenn Beck, and Reagan-era Attorney General Edwin Meese III.
  • Trump responded Thursday with a tweetstorm against the magazine, writing: “National Review is a failing publication that has lost it’s way. It's circulation is way down w its influence being at an all time low. Sad!”
  • Trump continued, also tweeting: “The late, great, William F. Buckley would be ashamed of what had happened to his prize, the dying National Review!”
  • Ahead of the issue, the Republican National Committee announced National Review has lost its sponsorship of the February 25 GOP debate due to their targeting of one of the candidates.
  • The magazine’s publisher Josh Fowler responded: “Small price to pay for speaking the truth about The Donald.”
  • Today on the Trail Where are the 2016 presidential candidates today?
  • Iowa Ben Carson (town halls), Mike Huckabee (meet and greets)
  • Highlight: Carson will participate in the first #AllVotesMatter Twitter town hall, a partnership between BET Digital and Vote America Now. The event, taking place at Drake University in Des Moines, will include an interview with Carson and Vote America Now president Chris Pruodhome, as well as a live interview moderated by rapper Dee-1 to answer questions submitted via social media.
  • Highlight: Huckabee will “join the stage slapping the base guitar” with 80’s glam metal band FireHouse at the Clear Lake ballroom where Buddy Holly gave his final performance.
  • New Hampshire Jeb Bush (business tour, seniors meet and greet, town hall), Chris Christie (town halls, drug recovery roundtable), Hillary Clinton (town hall), Jim Gilmore (mental health center visit), John Kasich (town halls), Martin O’Malley (town hall, meet and greet), Rand Paul (diner stop, business tour, town hall), Marco Rubio (town hall) Bernie Sanders (town hall), Rick Santorum (forum, town hall)
  • Highlight: Clinton will mark the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade by attending a Concord dinner hosted by NARAL Pro-Choice New Hampshire. In addition, EMILY’s List president Stephanie Schriock will campaign for Clinton in Iowa.
  • Washington, D.C. Carly Fiorina (march)
  • Highlight: Fiorina will also mark the Roe v. Wade anniversary, but from the other end of the spectrum: she will speak at March for Life, the annual pro-life rally, march, and lobbying day to protest the landmark Supreme Court decision. Other speakers at the rally include Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), and state Sen. Katrina Jackson (D-LA).

White House Watch

  • The President’s Schedule President Barack Obama has no public events today: the only item on his schedule are unknown meetings at the White House.
  • Obama was scheduled to award the National Medals of Science and National Medals of Technology today, but the event was rescheduled due to inclement weather.
  • Obama Announces Flint Aid Package Addressing the U.S. Conference of Mayors on Thursday, President Obama announced an increased investment by the federal government for localities to improve their water systems, pledging $80 million in aid for the state of Michigan, intended for Flint families dealing with the city’s water contamination crisis.
  • “Our children should not have to be worried about the water that they’re drinking in American cities,” Obama said. “That’s not something that we should accept.”
  • Obama already signed an emergency declaration in Flint Saturday, granting the city $5 million – a large sum, but significantly less than the $100 million requested by Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder. The sizable difference came from the President’s decision not to sign a federal disaster declaration, which he determined are meant for natural disasters only.
  • In his Conference of Mayors speech, Obama also alluded to his meeting with Flint Mayor Karen Weaver earlier in the week. The President also addressed Flint in a speech in nearby Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday.
  • “It is a reminder of why you can’t shortchange basic services we provide to our people and that we, together, provide as a government to make sure that the public health and safety is preserved,” Obama said about the crisis then.
  • “While the State of Michigan must take the lead in making things right for Flint families, I am committed to continuing to do everything I can to make sure the maximum amount of federal help is available as quickly as possible,” he continued.
  • Obama’s Thursday announcement of the federal aid package came on the same day that EPA official Susan Hedman, the agency’s regional administrator for Michigan and four other states, announced her resignation in connection to the Flint water crisis.
